Aftercare  for body piercings

Whether you’re considering getting a new piercing and want to know how you’ll need to care for it, or you lost the aftercare pamphlet that Candice gave you after your appointment- this page is for you! (Also PLEASE contact Candice for any additional questions!) The Association Of Professional Piercers is the organization I follow when it comes to aftercare and proper practices etc. I’ll link the website below!

For most piercings, the aftercare is very simple! Wash your hands thoroughly and then spray your new piercing with saline solution twice daily. Sterile saline solution is available for purchase at Pierced By Pixie and should only have .9% sodium chloride and distilled water. No other additives. Soaking is no longer necessary. You can then pat the area dry with clean paper towel. (bathroom towels harbor bacteria) Try to move the jewelry as little as possible because every time we move the jewelry in a new piercing it is similar to picking a scab - which only delays the healing process, creates scar tissue, can lead to piercing bumps and makes the piercing more susceptible to infection. Avoid submerging in lake, pool, bath or hot tub water etc. for at least two weeks. Fresh shower water is fine.  If “crusties” develop around the piercing gently brush away with a qtip after a hot shower. (Wet qtip with warm water or saline solution first.) Clean pillow cases and sheets are always recommended as well as clean clothing if you have a new body piercing. Avoid makeup, lotion, perfumes etc. around the piercing area for the duration of the healing process. Do not sleep on the new piercing. Using a travel pillow or piercing pillow can help to keep the weight off of your piercing while you sleep. Jewelry can be downsized after the time frame that was written on your aftercare sheet. (Each piercing has a different time frame for healing so please reach out to Candice if you forget or if you lost your sheet!)

If you don’t want to risk losing your piercing, do not leave the piercing without jewelry in it. Some people can leave their jewelry out after years of the piercing being there, but it’s not always worth the risk!

Again - please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or issues that may arise! Call or text Candice at (705) 297-2454

If you suspect you may have an infection or need further assistance it is always recommended to seek medical attention from a doctor.

Aftercare for oral piercings

If you have a new tongue piercing, rinse your mouth at least 5 times daily (any time you smoke, vape, eat/drink anything other than water) with alcohol free mouthwash for 30 seconds each time. Avoid moving your jewelry as much as possible as this can cause piercing bumps to form , increase your risk of infection and delay the healing process. Brush your teeth and tongue gently but at least twice daily as usual. Remove build up gently with your toothbrush. After 4 weeks you may downsize the jewelry with Candice at Pierced By Pixie for no additional charge.

For lip piercings follow the body piercing aftercare information above for the outside of the piercing, as well as the oral aftercare information above for the inside. Jewelry can be downsized after the time frame that was written on your aftercare sheet. (Each piercing has a different time frame for healing so please reach out to Candice if you forget or lose your sheet!)
